The Undercover Instructor - Ep 6 with Laura Saggers from Rise Pilates
Today I’m moving and chatting with
Laura Saggers, owner of Rise Pilates, Essendon
Instructor: Laura Saggers
Class: Align Reformer Class
Studio: Rise Pilates
Links: You can follow all things Rise here
I loved filming with Laura! Her warmth and authenticity are evident when ever in her presence and this certainly filters down through the entire studio and everything that Rise Pilates represents. I’m sure instructors and studio owners are going to get a lot out of these interviews at what ever stage of there Pilates journey!
Layers and building a foundation for people to come back to
It didn’t take me long to figure out that Laura is the ‘master’ of layering when I did her Align class at Rise Pilates. We chatted about how knowing the exercise that you are teaching back to front and the purpose of those exercises is the starting point. Once you have a base you can start layering little extra’s such as range of motion, using tempo, different prop’s.
“ People need that one place to go back to, that one place they know they are stable in”
Getting back to the roots of why you started
That hour of Pilates that you have someone for may be the only hour a person has in there day for themselves. Giving that person a physical outlet, more energy, connection, and personal growth is why Laura keeps showing up and leading even in the most difficult weeks.
Class Planning for New Instructors
Laura talks about the importance of starting where you are. Find a good group of exercises that you just know back to front that you could teach anywhere at anytime and ones that you know would work for anybody. Get good at teaching that first and then start to add a bit of ‘flavour’ over time.
